He began his career in the United States in the 1920s, appearing in several silent films. His early film credits include "The Plaything of Broadway" (1921), "A Lady of Quality" (1924), and "The Circe Effect" (1925). However, he is best known for his work as a character actor in the sound era.

Tenbrook appeared in dozens of films throughout his career, including "The Life of Emile Zola" (1937), "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939), and "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940). He also appeared in several films with John Wayne, including "Shepherd of the Hills" (1941) and "The Fighting Kentuckian" (1949).

In addition to his acting work, Tenbrook was also a successful theater actor, appearing on Broadway in several productions during the 1920s and 1930s. He passed away in 1960 at the age of 72.
