Gohar Ayub Khan was the son of former Pakistani president and military ruler Ayub Khan. He entered politics in the 1970s and served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 1985 to 1993 and again from 1997 to 1999. Gohar Ayub Khan also served as Pakistan's foreign minister from 1998 to 1999. He was known for his support of Pakistan's nuclear program and his advocacy for a strong Pakistan-US relationship. Following the military coup of General Pervez Musharraf in 1999, Gohar Ayub Khan spent time in exile before returning to Pakistan in 2004.
