Sophie Tucker (January 13, 1887 Russia-February 9, 1966 New York City) a.k.a. Sophie Kalish was a Russian singer, comedian and actor.

She first began performing in vaudeville shows in the US and gained fame for her bold, raspy voice and her ability to incorporate risqué humor into her performances. Tucker was one of the first female performers to create a fully-realized solo show that included her comedic and singing talents. Over the course of her career, she recorded numerous hits, including "Some of These Days" and "My Yiddishe Mama." She also appeared in several films and television shows, most notably during the 1940s and 1950s. Despite facing anti-Semitic and sexist attitudes throughout her career, Tucker is remembered for being a trailblazer and a beloved performer who helped pave the way for future generations of female comedians and singers.
