Ellen Widmann

Ellen Widmann (December 15, 1894 Biel/Bienne-October 22, 1985 Zürich) a.k.a. Ellen Widman was a Swiss actor.

She was best known for her role as Frau Beckmann in the German expressionist film, "M", directed by Fritz Lang in 1931. Widmann began her career on stage and transitioned to film in the 1920s. She was a frequent collaborator with Lang, appearing in several of his films throughout the 1930s, including "Spies" and "The Testament of Dr. Mabuse". Despite her success on screen, Widmann remained humble and returned to the theater in the 1940s. She continued to perform on stage until the early 1960s, earning critical acclaim for her performances in productions of works by Shakespeare and Goethe. Widmann retired from acting in 1964 and lived out the rest of her life in Zurich.
