Maria Schell (January 15, 1926 Vienna-April 26, 2005 Preitenegg) also known as Maria Margarethe Anna Schell, Margarete Schell, Gritli Schell, Seelchen or Little soul was a Swiss actor. She had two children, Oliver Schell and Marie-Theres Relin.

Maria Schell was born in Vienna, Austria and began her acting career in the 1940s. She gained recognition for her performances in German films such as "The Last Bridge" and "Gervaise". In 1955, she made her Hollywood debut in the film "The Brothers Karamazov" and received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Grushenka. Schell continued to act in both American and European films throughout her career, including "The Hanging Tree", "The Odessa File" and "Superman". In addition to her work in film, she also acted in theater productions and television shows. Schell won numerous awards for her work as an actor, including a Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in "Gervaise". She passed away in 2005 at the age of 79.
