Harry Schein

Harry Schein (October 13, 1924 Vienna-February 11, 2006 Djursholm) also known as Harry Leo Schein was an Austrian writer and actor.

He was born in Vienna to a Jewish family, and at the age of 14, he fled Austria due to the rise of Nazism. Schein lived in various countries, including France, Spain, and Costa Rica before settling in Sweden in 1950. He began his career in the Swedish film industry, working as a scriptwriter, actor and producer. In 1960, he co-founded the Swedish Film Institute and served as its managing director until 1978. Under his leadership, the institute played a significant role in supporting and promoting Swedish cinema both nationally and internationally. Schein was also involved in human rights advocacy and served as the chairman of the Swedish branch of Amnesty International. He was awarded the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star for his contributions to the country's film industry.
