Karl Mueller (July 27, 1962 Minneapolis-June 17, 2005) also known as Mueller, Karl was a German bassist.

He was best known as the founding member and bassist of the alternative rock band Soul Asylum. Mueller formed the band with Dave Pirner in 1981 and played on all of their studio albums until his death in 2005. Mueller also contributed to other musical projects and played with acts such as Golden Smog and the Flops. Despite battling throat cancer, Mueller continued to tour with Soul Asylum until just a few months before his passing. He was widely admired for his distinctive, melodic bass lines and is regarded as one of the greatest bassists in alternative rock history.

Mueller grew up in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota, where he studied art. He used his artistic abilities to design album covers for Soul Asylum, including their best-selling album "Grave Dancer's Union." In addition to playing bass, Mueller also played guitar, drums, and piano.

Mueller was heavily involved in charitable causes, including founding the "Rock for Raoul" benefit concert, which raised money for his friend and former Soul Asylum tour manager who was diagnosed with HIV.
