Franz Nopcsa von Felső-Szilvás (May 3, 1877 Deva-April 25, 1933 Vienna) also known as Franz Nopcsa von Felso-Szilvas was an Albanian scientist and writer.
Nopcsa was a paleontologist and geologist who made significant contributions to the field of paleobiology, particularly in the study of the Dinosauria. He discovered several new species of dinosaurs and reptiles, and was the first to suggest that dinosaurs may have evolved into birds.
Aside from his scientific work, Nopcsa was also an avid traveler and adventurer. He explored the Balkans, Albania, and parts of the Middle East, and was particularly interested in the culture and history of the Albanian people. His travels and experiences inspired him to become a writer, and he authored numerous books and articles on topics ranging from Albanian history and folklore to geology and paleontology.
Although he accomplished much in his life, Nopcsa struggled with personal demons, including depression and a growing dependence on alcohol. His suicide in 1933 shocked his colleagues and friends, and he is remembered today as a brilliant scientist and writer who left an indelible mark on his field.
