She is perhaps best known for her role as Nurse Mills in the 1945 film "Dead of Night". During World War II, she also worked as a radio presenter for the BBC, reading news bulletins and presenting cultural programs. After the war, she continued to act in films and television until the 1950s. She retired from acting in 1961 and spent the rest of her life in Mere, Wiltshire.
