Dave Somerville
Dave Somerville (October 2, 1933 Guelph-) also known as Diamond is a Canadian singer.
He is best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the Canadian vocal group The Diamonds, which produced hits such as "Little Darlin'" and "The Stroll" in the 1950s. In addition to his successful career as a musician, Somerville also worked as an actor and voiceover artist. He passed away on July 14, 2015, at the age of 81.
Somerville was born in Guelph, Ontario, but grew up in nearby Kitchener. He began his music career in his teens, singing with local groups and performing on local radio shows. In the early 1950s, he moved to Toronto and joined a group called The Four Tones. In 1953, he co-founded The Diamonds with three other members of The Four Tones.
The Diamonds quickly became popular in Canada, and in 1955 they signed with Mercury Records in the United States. Their first hit, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," reached number 12 on the Billboard charts. They went on to produce several more hits, including "Little Darlin'," "The Stroll," and "Silhouettes." The group continued to perform and record throughout the 1960s and 1970s, though Somerville left the group in 1961 to pursue a solo career.
In addition to his music career, Somerville worked as an actor and voiceover artist. He appeared in several films and television shows, including the 1971 film The House That Would Not Die and the 1989 TV series 21 Jump Street. He also provided voices for numerous cartoons and commercials.
