Harvey Goldsmith
Harvey Goldsmith (March 4, 1946 Edgware-) is an English promoter.
He is most well known for promoting major live events such as Live Aid, Live 8, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Goldsmith began his career in the music industry in the 1960s, working for a music management company before striking out on his own as a promoter in the early 1970s. Over the course of his career, he has worked with many of the biggest names in music, including the Rolling Stones, Madonna, and Pavarotti. Aside from music, Goldsmith has also been involved in promoting major sporting events such as the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. In recognition of his contributions to the music industry, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1986.
Goldsmith's impact on the music industry goes beyond just promoting large-scale events. He is also credited with revolutionizing the concert experience by introducing new technologies and production techniques. He was one of the first promoters to use giant video screens at concerts, and he also pioneered the use of surround sound and pyrotechnics. In addition to his work as a promoter, Goldsmith has also been involved in various philanthropic initiatives. He has served as chairman of the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity and has worked closely with the Prince's Trust.
