Kate McGarrigle (February 6, 1946 Montreal-January 18, 2010 Montreal) a.k.a. Kate or The McGarrigle Sisters was a Canadian singer, singer-songwriter, musician and film score composer. She had two children, Martha Wainwright and Rufus Wainwright.

Kate McGarrigle was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and grew up in the Laurentian Mountains village of Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts. Together with her sister, Anna McGarrigle, she formed the folk music duo "The McGarrigle Sisters".
