Elly Yunara started her career in the entertainment industry in the early 1950s, appearing in numerous films including "Masa Topi Dong" (1951), "Ratna Moetoe Manikam" (1953), and "Darah dan Doa" (1950). She was known for her versatility as an actor, being able to play various roles ranging from drama to comedy.

In the 1960s, she started her own film production company, "Elja Produksi". She produced several films such as "Gundala Putra Petir" (1967), "Intan Berduri" (1965), and "Jenderal Kancil" (1972).
