His albums include Mompou interpreta Mompou, Música Callada (piano: Javier Perianes), Piano Music, Volume 3, Suite compostelana / Canciones y danzas, Spanish Songs and Dances, Obras para piano, Piano Music by Federico Mompou, Werke für Gitarre, and Musica callada.
Mompou began his musical studies at a young age, first with his brother and then at the Conservatorio del Liceu in Barcelona. He went on to study in Paris with the famed pianist Isidor Philipp and was influenced by the music of Erik Satie and Claude Debussy. Mompou's own compositions are characterized by their spare, delicate, and introspective qualities, often evocative of his Catalan roots. He wrote primarily for solo piano, but also composed vocal music and music for guitar. Despite his reluctance to perform, Mompou was highly regarded as a pianist, especially for his interpretations of his own work. In addition to his career in music, Mompou was also a painter and calligrapher. He lived most of his life in Barcelona, only traveling outside of Spain briefly.
