Annie Vernay

Annie Vernay (November 21, 1921 Geneva-August 15, 1941 Buenos Aires) also known as Annie Martine Jacqueline Vermeersch was a Swiss actor.

Born in Geneva to a French mother and Belgian father, Vernay grew up bilingual and began acting in French language theatre at a young age. In 1940, she made her film debut in René Wheeler's La Colère des hommes. Despite only appearing in a handful of films, Vernay quickly gained popularity for her striking beauty and natural talent on screen.

In early 1941, Vernay left Switzerland due to the rise of Nazi influence in Europe, eventually settling in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she continued to act in French and Spanish language productions. However, on August 15, 1941, Vernay tragically died in a house fire at the age of 19, cutting short what could have been a flourishing career. Despite her brief time in the film industry, Vernay remains a beloved figure in Swiss and Argentinean cinema history.
