Frank Wisbar

Frank Wisbar (December 9, 1899 Sovetsk-March 17, 1967 Mainz) otherwise known as Franz Wysbar, Frank Bentick Wisbar, Frank Wysbar or F. Wysbar was a West German screenwriter, film director, film producer, television director and television producer.

Wisbar was born in Sovetsk, which was then known as Tilsit and was a part of East Prussia. He began his career in the German film industry in the 1920s and worked as a writer and assistant director on several films. Wisbar fled from Nazi Germany in 1937 and eventually settled in the United States, where he continued to work as a filmmaker. He directed several films in Hollywood, including the horror film "Strangler of the Swamp" in 1946. Wisbar returned to West Germany in the 1950s and continued his career in film and television. He is perhaps best known for his work on the TV series "Hafenpolizei" (Harbor Police) and "Polizei" (Police). Wisbar passed away in 1967 in Mainz.
